Now, i realize to some of you i might not sound normal for writing this next sentence. -
I love writing up budgets.
Like, i probably have spent hours upon hours writing up our family budget.
I don't know if I've always been this way. I do remember it started way back soon after we were married. Maybe soon after we got back from our honeymoon and there was -$5 in checking. We saw it on the ATM slip. We very quickly jumped out of our vehicle and ran into the bank to deposit a check. When coming back out we discovered our keys were locked in the vehicle. So then it was a call to pay $50 to a lock smith to come unlock the doors.
We started out our marriage super young and in love.
And we lived on love (not money). But that's OK because-
"Some people are rich
All they have is money."
Husband was glad to hand over the responsibility of balancing the check book and paying the bills.
And during a summer job of running a cash register at a restaurant,I picked this book off the book rack and read it between customers.
Then i bought it and have used the budgeting technique (mostly)ever since.

I wish i could say I've done it perfectly and we are wealthy and life is great.
But Life always comes along and likes to do it's thing.
Culture likes to tell me i need the latest of this and that.
Sickness comes along and gives medical bills.
Rainy days come and husband has less work.
Vehicle breaks down not once but thrice.
(you name it, its bound to happen, because life)
Also, I never said i like to live it out and STICK to the budget.
That is the hardest part!
Just like dieting with food.
It's a whole lot easier writing it out on paper than living it!
But having a plan is a great feeling.
June is a HUGE bill month.
Every bill possible is due this month.
Today i sat down excited to pay bills.
And i couldn't help but think how much of a dread this would be if i hadn't budgeted all year long for this!!
What about you... Do you budget?
If not, maybe it's time to tell your money what to do, instead of letting it control you!
